Meet Marian

I help thoughtful adults understand the patterns keeping them stuck.

Marian Kalvert, LPC

I believe that many of the struggles people bring to therapy are not signs that something is wrong with them — they are signals that something important needs attention, understanding, and care.

Symptoms have meaning.

Emotions contain information.

The nervous system tells a story.

Insight alone is often not enough. Lasting change requires both understanding and embodied experience. People frequently become trapped in survival adaptations that once protected them — but no longer serve them.

For more than a decade, I have worked with adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, burnout, life transitions, family boundary difficulties, and the lingering effects of trauma. Many of my clients are thoughtful, capable, high-functioning adults who appear successful on the outside yet feel exhausted, disconnected, stuck, or overwhelmed internally. They are often the ones others depend upon — while privately carrying stress, grief, self-doubt, or unresolved experiences that have never had space to be fully processed.

I believe that anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship struggles, and emotional overwhelm are often not the problem themselves, but expressions of deeper patterns that developed in response to life's experiences. Therapy becomes most effective when we can understand both the story behind those patterns and the ways they continue to live in the mind, body, and nervous system.

While reducing symptoms is important, my work goes beyond helping clients simply feel better. Together we work toward understanding why certain patterns persist, strengthening emotional resilience, cultivating self-trust, and creating meaningful, lasting change.

My work is informed by a psychodynamic theoretical orientation, is emotionally focused, insight oriented, client centered, and integrative. I also draw from EMDR, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapy (Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, CCH), Internal Family Systems, somatic and nervous system regulation approaches, and breathwork. Rather than adhering to a single model, I tailor treatment to the unique needs of each client, drawing from different approaches based on your goals, experiences, and readiness for deeper work.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Board Certified Counselor (NBCC), Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS), EMDR-trained therapist with EMDRIA certification pending, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist (CCH), and Certified Breathwork Facilitator. I hold a Master of Education in Professional Counseling from the University of Georgia and have been serving clients in private practice since 2015.

Clients often describe me as grounded, insightful, and compassionate, with a style that balances warmth with candor. I believe meaningful therapy happens within an authentic relationship where clients feel both supported and challenged to grow.

Healing is not about becoming someone different. It is about reconnecting with who you have always been beneath the stress, pain, and protective patterns that no longer serve you.
